This review is for Omnirocker plate . Since the beginning of time indoor turbo's has been necessary during winter months. My first turbo trainer was a very basic wheel on roller with a rubber band with some resistance. As years went by technology has changed. We now have smart trainers with power meters and Cadance and all gadgets to go with it, fantastic, plus online platforms.
But there has always been a problem using static indoor trainers. The lack of movement means the body takes a pounding in the winter. Mostly sore backside and dodgy joints (i.e. knees). Every year gets to a point when you dread the winter turbo sessions. This year started to look at rocker plates, googled many rocker plates and read reviews, but one name stood out from all the rest and all reviews were outstanding and that being Omnirocker.
The owner of this plate Martin based in Essex, personally delivered my rocker plate and set it up for me in the East Midlands and explained everything very well that I needed to know. Outstanding Service.
Have now used 4 times and main advantages are no more pain plus compared now using my trainer on this plate is literally a moving experience. Just to let the body relax and let the rocker do the work.
Fantastic, would highly recommend this product to everybody out there.
Hi Joe. Thank you for the review. ‘Dread the winter turbo sessions’ – that’s exactly the problem I set out to fix. Really glad the body’s feeling better and those joint issues have sorted themselves out. That’s what matters. It was Grest to meet you and get to chat bikes. Enjoy those winter rides. Martin.
I've been using the Omnirocker with my Wahoo Kickr and road bike for a few weeks now, and I have to say it's a game-changer for comfort/feel.
The extra forwards/backwards/tilting motion does take a little while to get used to, but soon enough it feels so much more natural than a fixed turbo trainer - more like riding your bike outdoors. Previously I would start to feel sore after about an hour on the trainer, but managed a 4-hour session last week without issues.
It's also worth mentioning how impressive the customer service was. Martin delivered the rocker plate personally at a time/day of my choosing, and set everything up in my garage. He walked me through how to remove/reattach my trainer in future, do basic maintenance, and talked me through some tips for getting used to the motion and getting on/off safely.
Overall a great product, I would definitely recommend it!
Hi Phil, 4 hours without issues – that's what it's all about. Glad the motion's clicked for you now. And cheers for mentioning the setup visit, always good to meet customers and make sure everything's dialled in properly. Enjoy those longer sessions, Martin.
I thought a lot about buying this rocker plate after seeing Ryan Condon using it on YouTube.
Seeing it in action in Ryan’s video I instantly thought that’s what I need for my Zwift rides to feel good and give me that light floaty feeling you get when you’re riding a bike in real life.
I put it off for a while just because I wanted to be sure, and now I’ve got it it’s even better than I could have imagined.
The quality and finish of this thing is unreal, it’s a serious piece of engineering.
When I had a minor problem fitting my trainer to it the service was unbelievable, Martin messaged me back straight away with the solution well outside of normal office hours.
The rocker is bombproof, easy to setup, easy to clean, smooth and silent so you forget that it’s there.
The resistance is so easily tuneable and when you set it as light as possible as Martin recommends, there’s something about the subtle balancing that just takes away all the pressure from the saddle and makes just riding along feel fun like you’re actually flying along!
Some people have said it takes a while to get used to, but as long as you take your time in setting the pressure to balance your bike perfectly upright with you on it, and make sure you adjust the pressure slightly if you feel like you’re leaning one way or the other to compensate it’s honestly just intuitive.
You’re balancing but you don’t really have to think about it!
Used it 3 times now and I would never go back to riding a static trainer.
My second time using it I found myself doing some out the saddle sprints that felt amazing, not because I’d planned to but it just felt natural, to the point where when I took my gilet off after warming up I was being careful for a second not to get it caught in the back wheel because I’d forgotten I wasn’t riding a real bike!
I wasn’t sure about what the forward and backwards movement would add, but when riding on it I’ve really noticed how much impact it’s saving my hands when going to the drops or down to the hoods after riding on the tops.
I can’t recommend it enough and now I know what it feels like I think it’s an absolute steal for the price. I mean how many times do you ride your much more expensive real bike outside in winter?
If you’re thinking about buying one do yourself a favour and just buy it, you won’t regret it!
If you’ve ordered one btw I recommend you watch Martin’s video on the sprinting technique to make sure you’re tipping the bike away from your downward pedal when sprinting to add power, not leaning with the pedal stroke and taking it away.
Hi Paul. Mate, this review. 'Forgot I wasn't riding a real bike' – that's exactly the feeling I'm chasing when I build these. And yeah, Ryan's video did us proud. Really glad it's clicked for you straight away, especially the out-the-saddle stuff feeling natural. That sprinting tip at the end is spot on too. Enjoy. Martin.
I've had a rocker plate for 6 months. I bought it mainly as a result of issue with discomfort from riding for many hours on Zwift. As is widely reported, any rocker plate takes time to get used to, but I found that learning curve short and relatively easy personally. Martin brought the plate to my house and installed it and spent a lot of time talking with me and explaining the design, which was much appreciated. The product is well designed and manufactured. It looks like a premium product, feels like one, and operates like one. The motion of the plate is smooth and silent. It is easy to clean off after use. The range of motion feels adequate and the overall impression I have after 6 months of use is that the product is well thought out and well executed. Recommended.
Hi Richard. Cheers for sticking with it these six months. 'Well thought out and well executed', that's exactly what I'm aiming for. No gimmicks, just does the job properly. Glad the discomfort issues sorted themselves out. Rock On! Martin.
